Elk Creek LLC was formed in 1998 to invest in synthetic fuel facilities pursuant to Section #29 of the IRS Code. Elk Creek was quite successful over the subsequent ten years producing a superior return to investors. The plants were located near Birmingham, Alabama and produced tax credits in excess of $300 million per year to shield over $2 billion of income annually. The enabling legislation expired December 2007 but Elk Creek continues as an investment vehicle. Nate Bachman was the founder and Managing Member of Elk Creek LLC. See Commentary section that follows.
Mr. Bachman and a successor to Elk Creek LLC are investors in several other high risk/high reward ventures now.
Venture capital is risky but can yield extraordinary results. The return of Elk Creek was exemplary – over 15 times the original investment in 10 years at capital gain rates. In fact, the return to investors averaged over 250% for 5 consecutive years. Fewer than ¼ of 1% publicly traded companies achieved this result.
Over the years, Nate Bachman has served as a director of twelve public private corporations. Mr. Bachman served in the U.S. Marine Corps and has been active in civic and cultural affairs. He was president of Cincinnati Society of Financial Analysts. In 2002, he concluded a five year term as the president of his Class of Princeton University.
